The Strategic Air & Space Museum’s Education Department is committed to fueling the curiosity of children across the Midwest and to educating them with special emphasis in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). We believe that STEM is a direction of great significance for our youth and the future of our country and world and so we strive for excellence in all of our STEM-centered educational programs. 

2012 Summer Camps 

ROBOTICS
Ages 8-12

$250 members $275 non-members

June 11-15,  July 30-Aug 3

This exciting new five-day camp will introduce your youth to the most current robotics platforms storming our country, including Lego Mindstorm, CEENBoT, VEX and more!  They’ll learn the basics of robotics, or if your camper already has experience in robotics then this is the perfect place to build and hone those skills.  Campers will get to dive into learning robotics through hands-on experimenting and teamwork.  They’ll be amazed at the types of robots that they create with their own two hands!  Ever heard of a scribble-bot, brush-bot, or beetle-bot?  They’ll have a blast creating these little mechanical friends. In addition to robotics, campers will learn the basics of electronics, take a field trip, and prepare for a fun-filled competition at the end of camp!   Kids will see their curious minds blossom through fun-filled experiments and hands-on activities designed to make robotics come alive!  Transportation is provided daily from Omaha & Lincoln

MAD SCIENTIST CAMP
Ages 8-12

Give your child the opportunity to explore the forces and components that make up our world through hands-on experiments and projects centered on the most exciting facets of Engineering, Science, Technology, Math, Aviation and Space!  July 2012 Scientists will feed their curiosity for three days and will stretch their minds and hands to create, design, and test out ideas through our engineering challenges and will come home raving about mind-blowing scientific experiments!  They will be able to let their imaginations take shape as they discover, alongside their friends, some of the most fascinating and powerful pillars of modern knowledge.  They’ll be amazed at what they find!  Transportation is provided daily from Omaha & Lincoln.

WEEKEND FLIGHT CAMP
Ages 9-13

$200 members $225 non-members

July 13-15, July 20-22, August 3-5

Clear the runway for take-off as your camper jets into the greatest camp experience available for the curious youngster interested in flight! Your campers will experience two nights “checking for light leaks” (sleeping) underneath the SR-71 Blackbird, and three action-packed days having a blast and flying side-by-side with their friends here at the Museum. Campers will not only soar in our computer simulated Flight School, but will also climb to amazing levels as they “practice” the skills they have acquired in our full-motion 360-degree flight simulators!  They’ll also get to crawl through planes, take behind the scenes tours, test gliders, and more!

Girls Only!!! WEEKEND FLIGHT CAMP
Ages 9-13

$200 members $225 non-members

July 13-15

This weekend camp includes all the best activities and experiences from our regular Weekend Flight Camp, but is designed to allow girls to explore aviation together in a fun and exciting way!  They’ll get to talk with and learn from a real pilot, spend time in our flight simulators, get up-close tours and plane crawls, sleep among the old flying giants and more!  The excitement will soar in this Girls Only Flight Camp!

Ages 10-14

June 18-21, July 9-12

This brand new camp will have campers’ eyes on the skies!  If it belongs in the air, then you’ll get to see it.  Campers will be exposed to aviation, rocketry, High Altitude Ballooning, astronomy and more in this camp jam packed with excitement!  Youth will even experience a breathtaking adventure in a high-flying private plane! That’s right, you’ll get a tour, instruction and flight in a private plane at Advanced Air in Council Bluffs.  Create and test various flight-based projects and designs, and go on awesome behind-the-scenes tours! This is not your ordinary week at summer camp! Spend three nights and four days at Platte River State Park and the Strategic Air and Space Museum. This exhilarating camp combines high-flying, exciting, hands-on activities with knowledge and understanding of the world of flight and astronomy.  Catered meals provided.

ASTRONAUT ACADEMY
Ages 13-17

Future ASTRONAUTS! Get ready to train like the best of them just like they do at NASA! This camp gives participants the unique chance to fulfill their dreams of space exploration, aviation, and engineering, all right here in Nebraska! Between living at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s dorms and here at the Museum campers will be challenged to sharpen their analytical skills, problem-solving techniques, teamwork, and knowledge of space and aeronautics through hands-on activities in an inspiring atmosphere! SCUBA diving and underwater missions, survival training on a ropes course, and tours of Nebraska’s largest observatory and the University of Nebraska’s robotics lab are just a few of the exciting events that make up this thrilling week of space exploration!

$75 Deposit Required. 

NASA — KENNEDY SPACE CENTER
Ages 14-17

$1,250 members $1,300 non-members

July 15-20 

The excitement begins with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum and a day of SCUBA diving and performing underwater missions as the astronauts do. Then, we’ll fly to Orlanda, Florida and visit Kennedy Space Center for a behind-the-scenes tour of NASA’s KSC! This will include a visit to the rocket garden, famous launch pads including 39A and 39B, behind-the-scenes tours to historic early NASA facilities, the KSC visitor center, having lunch with an astronaut and more! Enjoy a visit and participate in an Astronaut Training Experience space shuttle team mission with your crew at the Astronaut Hall of Fame, watch an IMAX show, experience a shuttle simulator and more! We’ll also enjoy some time on a beautiful Florida beach and take in some local fare.  Airline flight, meals and all activities included.
