C-47
| The
museum's C-47, S/N 43-48098, was manufactured by Douglas Aircraft,
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma., and delivered to the
U.S. Army Air Corps on July 14, 1944. The aircraft was dropped from
the inventory and flown to the Strategic Air & Space Museum in
October, 1969. |

|
The entire cargo bay was stripped
out. All new flooring and soundproofing was installed, the
windows were replaced and all seat assemblies were removed
and replaced. The result is a restored
cargo area that our Restoration team is very proud of. |
| The
cockpit was completely stripped prior to refurbishing. |

The
restored cockpit is the pride of the Restoration crew. The entire
cockpit area has been completely refurbished. All interior components
were removed and the entire
area primed and painted.
The instrument panels were rebuilt and new gauges installed. |
| D-Day
invasion stripes were added to the primed aircraft before the final
olive-drab finish coat is applied. |
|
|
Restoration
in nearly complete as the plastic draped C-47 receives its final
detailing. |
| One
of the last steps of the restoration process is the addition of
nose art which was applied by the Museum's graphic artist. |
